Venice Accommodation Options

Although Venice is a relatively small city and has a limited amount of space for large hotels, there is an overwhelming number of accommodation options for visitors to choose from.

Venice Luxury & Boutique Hotels

Venice Hotel

Venice attracts the rich and famous year round, and as such there are a number of high-class hotels that are based in the city. Many are situated close to Saint Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) or to Rialto Bridge. Some of the boutique hotels are in restored mansions and palaces, whilst others boast of gardens (a rarity in Venice!) or views of the Grand Canal. One such hotel, San Clemente Palace, is even located on it's own separate island! Other famous luxury and boutique hotels include Hotel Bonvecchiati, Hotel Saturnia, Hotel Rialto, Hotel Giorgione and Hotel Ca' dei Conti.

International Chains

There are a number of international chain hotels situated within Venice and its surrounds, providing a reliable alternative for travellers who prefer to stick with what they know. The selection varies depending on budget and how close you want to be to the action, with Best Western offering the broadest variety - it has a hotel in Mestre (on the mainland) as well as four hotels in Venice itself (Premier Hotel Sant'Elena, Hotel Olimpia, Hotel Montecarlo and Hotel Albergo San Marco). Novotel and Holiday Inn also have hotels in Mestre (Novotel Venezia Mestre Castellana and Holiday Inn Mestre respectively). Hotel Carlton has two hotels in Venice (Carlton Grand Canal and Carlton Capri), whilst Sofitel and Continental have one each. Other chains, such as Holiday Inn, have hotels situated further away from Venice but within easy reach by train or bus.

Mid-Range Hotels in Venice

One thing that Venice has plenty of is mid-range hotels. Depending on the time of year you visit the city and how far ahead you book you should be able to negotiate a decent price for your stay. Generally mid-range accommodation in Venice is located further away from the main tourist spots, though many are within easy walking distance of at least one of the major sights. Many are located close to the train station (Venezia Santa-Lucia), putting them further away from the action but with better transportation links. Ca' Amadi, Domus Ciliota, Hotel All'Angelo Venice, Hotel Marconi Venice and Hotel Firenze Venice are amongst the better known mid-range options.

Venice Budget Hotels, Hostels & Bed and Breakfasts

Venice Hotel

Due to Venice's popularity as a tourist destination the hotel prices tend to be higher than average, so for budget travellers it may be worth investigating staying in a low-cost hotel or even trying some of the hotels on the mainland or on Lido (the outer Lagoon island). Another option is to opt for short-term rentals, though this generally requires you staying in Venice for longer than a week (often longer than a fortnight). Venice Hostel is located on the island of Giuedecca, the closest island to the south of Venice, and is a good option for backpackers and students. Bed and breakfasts might be another way to go, and there are plenty within Venice itself: B&B Venezia, B&B Faranhof, and the Residenzia Laguna Venice are all popular.
